FIG VARIETIES Figs come in a range of different varieties these include: Brown Turkey Figs: They have a brownish coloured skin often with hints of purple. It have pink, red and white flesh Celeste Figs: When ripe they turn a purplish-brown colour. The flesh inside is a dark purple. These figs are very sweet. They are about the size of an egg. The Calimyrna Fig: These figs are know for its golden skin and nut-like flavour. This is one of the most eaten fig. The Mission Fig: These figs can also be called "Black mission Fig", this is due to the fact that when these figs turn black when dried. When ripe the figs are a deep purple colour. |
The Kadota Fig: This fig has a creamy amber colour, a thick skin when ripened. They are practically seedless, the figs can often come canned or dried.
Alma Fig: These figs are small to medium sized, they are golden brown and pear shaped with an amber coloured pulp. Black Portugal Fig: These figs have a pink flesh and either a red or dark purple skin. They are very sweet and its origin is from Portugal. Byadi Fig: These figs are medium sized, there skins are a yellow colour. They have a very distinct honey flavour. Brooklyn White: This is one of the best and flavoursome white figs. Pink coloured flesh, with a white outline Makedonia Dark: These figs ripen early in the season, they are very sweet and have a dark purple skin with red pulp. Melanzana Fig: this fig is from Italy, its size in medium to large, with a reddish-brown skin and an amber coloured pulp. this fig ripens early in the season. Brogiotto Bianco: these figs have a surrounding of honey for the pulp, it cracks when ripe, the skin is a light green, with a deep red flesh. Pajarera fig: this fig is most known for being the bird fig because it is very sweet. It is a medium size and it has a read flesh and a dark purple or red skin. Panachee: the skin is stripped vertically two different shades of green with a deep red pulp, it is also known as a tiger fig due to the stripes. Capelas: these figs are extremely slow growing but very sweet, they are very large. |
